How fast a year passes… and after Paris last June  I’m looking forward to OFFF Barcelona 2011 under the theme Year Zero:

“Year Zero. Year Alpha. Time to turn our back on the past. To just look forward. Upwards. Fearless of being blinded by the sun. It’s time to set up new rules, to invent new games. To forget about the “re-” and the “post-”. To become kids again and discover the world. Another one. It’s time to be revolutionary. There is no longer a present to determine us, because the present is us. We are the future. And the future will be just like we want it to be.
2011 is Offf’s Year Zero. The year the festival will voluntarily forget its past and once again reinvent itself. In a new place. With new areas. With fresh ideas and the spirit of those who start something. Something big. Different. Better.
From OFFF we stand up to the passage of time. We reject it.  We have decided not to age. Our route page is blank. Our map, waiting to be drawn. Nothing ties us. Nothing is forbidden. Nothing is done. There is no limit. Year Zero. Tabula rasa. Look, the dawn is breaking. It’s a new day rising.”

A day off to explore new Things – thanks to Noemi from karpet who gave me the tip – I visited the beautiful Showroom eco design home in Zurich Binz. A really nice space with an interesting selection of products. Especially the furniture from Piet Hein Eek which Cora Ruoss imports exclusively are worth a closer look. The Dutchman designs and manufactures for many years successfully his unique products made from recycled materials. In Eindhoven where he changed an old ceramic factory into an atelier-showroom-restaurant, the furniture and accessories are Custom Made with exquisite craftsmanship. I like the scrap wood furniture, an idea as “a reaction against the prevalent craving for flawlessness” Piet Hein Eek says. This imperfection creates a new aesthetic; the uncommon materials combined with simple and equally uncommon methods became the theme running through his work.
I like the challenge to get the most out of existing circumstances, the use and development of material that is abundantly available, as a sustainable concept.

A perfect day in como starts with waking up in the villaflori just enjoying the unbelievable view on the lake drinking a cappuccino in the garden. After that I recommend a relaxing walk to the center with its small streets, cafés and shops to buy some cheese and ham at the market around il duomo di como. You will find a special selection of design and decoration at Dorianda de Petris and if you like shawls as much as I do I recommend passing by  A.GI.EMME. Aperitivo at Fresco is followed by a dinner in one of the nice restaurants. Depending on your mood  there is the cosy and original enoteca84, the uncomplicated market place or the fancy ristorante kitchen and lots more to explore…

Cabinet52 a new space in Zurich for temporary installations in the field of design, fashion and accessories. Jeroen van Rooijen “Zerlegt” classics of fashion and this in the truest sense of the word: with knife and scissors and the Bernina „Auftrennerli“, he cut the clothes, to analyse their story and check the processing. The concept is to ask the question of sustainability and rational production, to find out something about the origin, trade and production routes of each piece. Last Thursday, a shirt from the brand Rapha has been „Zerlegt“. The nice Thing is, that the arrangements of the cutted individual parts, photographed by Patrick Rohner, get a new life as aesthetic Pictures. From the series in the NZZ Folio, the best 44 projects are collected in the book “Zerlegt”.
