Clemens en August on Tour – a classic yet stylish Collection from Alexander Brenninkmeijer who’s family was behind the German textiles and fashion retail giant C&A. The name comes from Clemens und August Brenninkmeijer, who founded the company in 1841. Like in the old days where the brothers started making clothes and selling them directly to cash-strapped farmers, Alexander does much the same today; the collection is sold exclusively on “tour” around the world. Each season, Clemens en August tours 10 cities for 3 days only. From 29.10.-01.11. in Zurich Giesshübelstrasse 62c.
I’m so proud wearing an ochs und junior! My post N˚042 was about these wonderful watches and now I have my own mese tinta… and with own I really mean it because thanks to the concept it is possible to choose any Pantone color to design your tinta! Pantone 7546 c combined with a dark brown leather strap and white hands and indices – for me – the perfect combination.
The tinta collection with the mese, selene and due ore is Ludwig Oechslin’s vision of pure functionality. The concept of the mese tinta is the answer to the simple question: What does a good watch need? The time and the date! The mese tinta has both, and how! Ludwig Oechslin’s innovative date spiral with the orange dot to indicate the date, sets a new standard for legibility.
Besides these conceptual considerations it’s all about technical perfection and high end material. The 42 mm titanium case contains an ETA calibre 2824 self-winding mechanical movement. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal and, as with all ochs und junior timepieces, the mese tinta is presented on an eco-tanned leather strap with a titanium buckle.
As I already introduced in N˚025 the CreativeMornings is a monthly breakfast lecture series originally started by swiss-miss.com in NYC. The Zurich chapter is run by Daniel Frei.
Today, my Colleague Patrick Arnecke, Head of Design at SRF, was the speaker. I was very excited when he asked me to design the location for the event in one of the TV studios. As I like to join these mornings myself, it was a great honor to be even part of it! You will find the speech about the SRF design team on Vimeo and some notes on facebook. Thanks to the helpful Tpc crew, the delicious CupCakes and the interesting speech, I think it was a great morning!

Santorini is a perfect place to extend your summer feeling and enjoy some beach days before autumn arrives. Early September is the best time to travel: beautiful, almost empty beaches, fun but not too crowded nightlife and lots of nice restaurants without tourists all over. My suggestion for a relaxed day is to rent a car, drive to Perivolos Beach, enjoy the day at WET Stories drink some iced coffee before having lunch at Nets Fish Tavern next to the beach. Santorini offers many good restaurants like Metaximas in Exo Gonia where I had amazing lamb with mint and yoghurt sauce or the grilled sardines at Nichteri in Kamari. Kamari is a nice spot for a day trip and offers among lots of small shops and bars the most beautiful Openair Cinema. The Feggera Restaurant serves exquisite traditional food on a terrace with a nice view over Megalochori, here the keftedes are a must! Then there is il Cantuccio, a small italian Ristorante in Firostefani with delicious spaghetti frutti di mare. After dinner a short walk with a stunning view over the Caldera leads you to Thira. Thira is the main village and offers everything a touristy place does: shops, bars, clubs and lots of souvenirs. After dinner a drink or sangria at Kira Thira Jazz is perfect to start nightlife. Next day same again…
The evening started with an Aperitivo, homemade Grissinis, salted Almonds and a very fine Salami I bought at saltinbocca.ch. I not only enjoy the evening itself but love the shopping and the preparation for the TAVOLATA. This time I bought everything in the Martkhalle at Viadukt. The table was set with Antipasto like Pulpo, Vitello Tonnato, Funghis, Figs, Caponata and Foccacia. After the Pasta I served an amazing La Tur from Tritt cheese Shop with my Bread, an Onion Confit and Merlot from LaVialla. To finish the dinner I made Blackberry Ice cream and Plum Cake.
Another wonderful evening with friends, food and good talks- thanks to Claudia and Frank for the guests and the good atmosphere at Freiwerk. Grazie a tutti.

“Sleep and dine from one to five stars” is the concept of the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam. All 117 rooms differ in size, interior concept and furniture, a combination of modern Dutch design and timeless classics. The Lloyd Hotel is located in the heart of the Eastern Docklands only 5 minutes by bike from Central Station, with views over the water and away from the noise of the city.
The Hotel is set in a revamped 1920s building with a vibrant story: First built as an emigrant’s hotel by Evert Breman, the German occupier converted the building 1941 into a prison. After that, it became a detention centre for juveniles in the sixties, before the city of Amsterdam rented out the Lloyd Hotel to a foundation, which turned it into workshops for artists. The plan to turn the building into a cultural embassy and a one to five star Hotel came 1997 and was realized and reopened as Lloyd Hotel in 2004.
My room 401 was all about space; with walls to fold out to change the spaciousness and create room for the bath and a cosy sleep space. I liked the atmosphere, the comfort and the friendly service at Lloyds and I appreciated the bike drive along the IJ after a long day in the city.
Stephan put my attention on another nice product manufactured and designed with care and skilled craftmanship: The Shwood Eyewear: “An experiment born from the limb of a Madrone tree, a rusty pair of cabinet hinges, and lenses from a store around the corner.” As the name says, they create with wood and play with its individuality and uniqueness- they keep the wood manipulation a minimum in order to showcase the medium’s natural and unique splendor. How nice to be inspired by nature to innovate and create such a nice thing. I’m looking forward to mine The Canby…
